In the round of 16 of the 2020-2021 Coppa Italia at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo Atalanta win 3-1 over Cagliari and thus qualify for the quarter-finals where the Nerazzurri will face the winner of Lazio-Parma, which is scheduled for Thursday 21 at 21 CET.
The Nerazzurri created a lot of chances in the first half. After a Miranchuk’s goal ruled out for offside at the early stages of the match, the duel between Vicario and the Nerazzurri forwards began on 22. The Cagliari goalkeeper was good at parrying Muriel’s and Miranchuk’s finishes, then Šutalo’s shot took a deflection on 24 and went out of play, and one minute later Miranchuk had another attempt on goal. The Nerazzurri kept pressing and had the most of the chances. On 26 Vicario parried Gosens’ close-range shot and immediately repeated himself on Freuler’s powerful mid-range shot. After half an hour, Gosens and then Muriel became dangerous again. The goal arrived in the 43rd minute with Miranchuk who was assisted by Muriel: after the goals at the beginning in the league and Champions League, the Russian attacking midfielder also scored on his debut in the Coppa Italia.
In the second half Muriel stroke the bar on a free kick (on 53) and two minutes later Cagliari equalised through Sottil. The draw only lasted six minutes, as Muriel fired his left-foot shot into the far top corner to restore the Nerazzurri lead on 61. Malinovskyi’s free-kick severely tested Vicario on 63 and one minute later Šutalo found the winning deflection on the resulting corner to seal the 3-1. Sottil got dangerous once again on 79 when he hit the bar. It ended 3-1 at the Gewiss Stadium and thus continues the Nerazzurri’s journey in the Coppa Italia.
