On matchday 37 of the 2022-2023 Serie A TIM, the game against Inter at the Stadio Meazza in Milan ended 3-2 at the end of a match played at high intensity and with many chances.
The hosts got off to a lively start and opened the scoring with their first attempt as Lautaro sent Lukaku clear on goal and the Belgian skipped past Sportiello. They doubled their lead at the end of a chaotic move, as Sportiello denied Dimarco twice but couldn’t do more on Barella’s right-foot effort to the top corner.
Atalanta’s reaction came from Højlund on 23 minutes, as the Dane hit a powerful left-footed shot that was parried by Onana. After Calhanoglu’s free-kick went just wide in the 34th minute, first Koopmeiners, whose shot was turned over the bar by Onana, and then Scalvini (a towering header that was just wide) came close to making it 2-1 when Pašalić halved the deficit after a scramble in the box.
Inter threatened in the opening minutes of the second half through Lautaro (Toloi was crucial on his first attempt, then the Inter attacker fired wide), and then Calhanoglu, whose scorcher was parried by Sportiello. The Argentine himself added another goal for the hosts in the 77th minute, but Atalanta fought hard until the end and Muriel cut the gap in the 91st minute with an amazing long-range shot that smacked the bar and hit Onana to make it 3-2. Unfortunately, that was the final result.
Two days off are now in store for the team, who will resume training on Tuesday afternoon with a behind-closed-doors session at the Centro Bortolotti.
