2020-2021 review: Berat Djimsiti

The season of the Nerazzurri number 19

Omnipresent in Europe and second Nerazzurri player for balls recovered, Berat Djimsiti’s 2020-2021 season was once again dominated by reliability: 46 games played in all competitions (33 in Serie A TIM, 8 in the UEFA Champions League, 5 in the Coppa Italia), 1 goal scored and 3 assists provided. He is the only Nerazzurri player not to have missed even a minute in the Champions League: eight out of eight appearances in the top club’s European competition. And he is the third player in the squad for games played, the second one for overall minutes. However, the only goal scored was extremely important, as it was the opener in the 3-2 win over Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals. Then he also contributed three assists, all in the league and all at the Gewiss Stadium: in the 3-0 win against Fiorentina, in the 4-2 victory over Napoli and in the 5-1 win over Crotone. With a fun fact: the three assists were for three defenders, in order Toloi, Romero and Palomino.

Here are the official Lega Serie A statistics about the league: 2,759 minutes played (third in the team ranking), 10.218 km run on average per game (fifth in the team ranking), 257 ball recoveries (second in the team ranking, tenth overall in Serie A), 15 shots made, 5 goalscoring chances created, 8 key passes, 25 fouls suffered.

Lastly, Berat’s personal achievements this season: his 100th Serie A match in the 1-1 draw in Turin against Juventus and the 100 games for the Nerazzurri in the 3-1 win in the Coppa Italia semifinal 2nd leg against Napoli in Bergamo. With the Albania national team, he made 11 appearances out of 12 games played, all from the first to the last minute. And his greatest joy, however, came off the pitch, with the birth at the end of September of his first child, Lion Aron.
