Ademola’s breathtaking first leg

Three braces within eight days

To say that it took Ademola Lookman as swiftly as the first half of his very first season for Atalanta to take Italian football by storm is nothing short of a pleasant understatement: his impressive offensive contribution in all competitions, comprising both the Serie A TIM and the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, amounts to 13 goals and the 2 assists provided in the league matches against Salernitana and Juventus; in addition to the penalty awarded against Torino and the opponents’ own-goal brought about in the match with Monza.

After proving his key contribution as early as in his first Serie A TIM appearance on the 13th of August at the Ferraris stadium in Genova against Sampdoria, his goal not only doubled Atalanta’s lead but ultimately secured the final 2-0 result of the match, Ademola, pictured above while performing his very first of many celebrations, has since then honed his “killer instinct” to the detriment of Fiorentina, Udinese, Sassuolo, Empoli, Napoli, Inter, Salernitana (with a brace) and, most recently, Juventus (with another brace): thus accruing a tally of 11 league goals.

His penchant for making scoring debuts did not stop at the league’s threshold though, as his name featured the scoreboard of our latest Coppa Italia Frecciarossa commitment: once again at his very first appearance for Atalanta, this time in the National cup, Lookman (pictured above while celebrating one of his two cup goals) scored a brace during the one-way fixture against Spezia and his performance was thus crucial to punch the ticket to the quarter-finals.

In the last 8 days Ademola’s scoring streak, relentless and impressive in equal measure, has reached new peaks: with 3 back-to-back braces scored in as many matches (namely in the two latest league fixtures and the aforementioned Coppa Italia commitment), the Nigerian striker has breached a record lasting ever since the 2006-2007 season and became the first Atalanta player to score three consecutive braces in all competitions. Lookman has been the 4th player in the history of the Club to score a tally of 10 or more goals within his first 19 league matches, nonetheless during his maiden Serie A season, only bettered by Jørgen Leschly Sørensen, Karl Aage Hansen (both back in the 1949-1950 season) and Poul Rasmussen (in the 1952-1953 campaign).
