It was a fairly even first half, with Muriel forcing the first save of the game off Maignan after 30 minutes. As for the rest, defenders prevailed over forwards. The deadlock was broken in the 56th minute through Leao, who quickly went on the counter but the Nerazzurri complained about not penalising Milan for a foul on Pessina on the edge of the Rossoneri box. Substitute Zapata tried his luck on 62 minutes first (he blasted over) and then on 71 minutes when his header was inches wide.
