The season is already over. After presenting individual Player of the Month awards, it’s high time to sum it up and award the best Nerazzurri player of the season. The Atalanta fans have crowned him: José Luis Palomino! The Argentinian defender put in umpteenth top-quality displays this season for which he fully deserves to be named the ItalianOptic Player of the Season.
It was another season in which there was no forward who didn’t have a hard time with José, who was hot on their tails all the 90 minutes. Flawless at tackling (he finished 6th in the Serie A), perfect at winning the ball back (2n in Serie A for interceptions), he was a key player for Atalanta’s defence and irreplaceable for Gasperini, which is proved by the 45 appearances he registered this season. It’s a well-deserved Player of the Season award for El Jefe. We’re sure that he’ll celebrate it the way he did after scoring a goal against Young Boys.
Palomino had to struggle with a very hard opponent: Mario Pašalić, who’s fresh from winning the POTM award for May as well as being named the Nerazzurri’s top-scorer of the season and third top-scorer in Europe among midfielders. Let’s give a round of applause for Mario, who was narrowly defeated by José.
