The Gewiss Stadium’s renewal: tracing the layout on Monday 5/6

The countdown is almost up: on the 5th of June, the day after the last league fixture of the 2022-2023 season between Atalanta and Monza, the layout of the overall construction site will be traced and delimited, kick-starting the third stage of the refurbishment of the Gewiss Stadium.

To delve deeper into the overall process, building operations will entail the refurbishment of the Curva Sud Morosini, the Away Section and the Distinti Sud (in addition to the construction of the adjacent underground parking lot and all rated infrastructure works as per the implementing regulation).

The dismantling of both the Curva Sud Morosini and the Away Section will commence on Thursday, the 8th of June towards midday: all interested fans will be able to attend the first steps of the refurbishing process outside the Gewiss Stadium. On the square facing the Curva Sud Morosini, Despe is to deploy one of the biggest demolition excavators in the world, fitted with a pulverizer to start the controlled demolition of the Curva Sud standings.

As for the Distinti Sud standings, as a follow-up to a previous statement, their demolishment will eventually be carried out on a second instance: due to the presence of all technological apparel that regulates the proper operational activities of the Gewiss Stadium beneath this stand, any further refurbishing operation, to ensure the regular performance of the 2023-2024 season, will be henceforth reprised upon the completion of the Curva Sud Morosini and the subsequent displacement of the aforementioned machinery therein. As for the Distinti Sud, they will be allocated as a provisional zone for visiting supporters due to the presence of an Away Section as a mandatory prerequisite for the issue of national and UEFA licences.

As already announced, all works are bound to come to a close by the end of summer 2024: hence, Atalanta will be playing the entirety of the 2023-2024 season without a key component of their home. Consequently, the seating capacity of the Gewiss Stadium will dwindle considerably: between the Curva Sud Morosini and the Distinti Sud standings, the cutback will entail 3,500 seats.

A campaign of great sacrifice is in store for the black-and-blue fanbase, especially for all those season ticket holders currently located in both the Curva Sud Morosini and the Distinti Sud sectors – to whom the Club altogether wishes to tender its most heartfelt acknowledgement. All provisional subscribers of the aforementioned bracket will be nonetheless provided with the option to subscribe to a season ticket, if and where possible, to any other available sector of the Gewiss – figures in hand, accommodation will not be equally available to everyone.

Regardless of any provisional seasonal subscription for the 2023-2024 season and to compensate for any inconvenience caused by the refurbishment, the Club will grant all 2022-2023 season ticket holders located within both the Curva Sud Morosini and the Distinti Sud a pre-emptive right to a place in the new Curva Sud Morosini in the 2024-2025 subscription campaign.

Come Summer 2024, Atalanta, Bergamo and the black-and-blue family altogether will finally have a fully renovated Gewiss Stadium at their disposal, ready to take on any future endeavour in style also thanks to its modern layout.
