Italy 1-1 Netherlands at the Gewiss Stadium

Hateboer featured in the Netherlands squad

The Italian national football team have returned to play in our city after fourteen years and it was a special night at the Gewiss Stadium. The Azzurri faced Hateboer’s Netherlands squad for Bergamo and the Bergamaschi in the UEFA Nations League fixture.

On the pitch in Bergamo and for Bergamo, with thoughts for the Bergamaschi and a territory that suffered so much, strongly affected by the horrific wave called Covid-19. The return of the Italian national team to our city after 14 years had profound meanings and it was a gesture of great sensitivity that found a splendid setting in the Gewiss Stadium, with a big Italian flag to dress the Curva Pisani for the occasion. On the stands, among the 1000 spectators, a delegation of doctors and nurses from the Papa Giovanni XXIII and Humanitas hospitals and the 243 Mayors of the Province, representing the population of a symbolic territory for the price paid in terms of victims during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The match with the Netherlands, valid for matchday 4 in the League A Group 1 of the UEFA Nations League, ended 1-1 with a goal from Pellegrini and one from Van de Beek in the first half. Hateboer, representing the Nerazzurri colours, was featured for the entire match for the Orange in a special night.
