UCL: Update on Valencia

The Spanish team are sixth in the league

Valencia too, Atalanta’s next opponents in the UEFA Champions League 2019-2020 round of 16, started 2020 well. The Spanish side beat Eibar 1-0 at the Mestalla through Maxi Gomez, the Uruguayan forward who has already scored 7 goals in his first season in La Liga.

Thanks to this win, Celades’s team extend their unbeaten run to seven matches among Liga and Champions League: the last defeat dates 23rd November away to Betis. Since then they got four wins and three draws, including those against Chelsea and Real Madrid. Valencia are now sixth in the standings with 31 points, tie with Real Sociedad, with a 4 points gap from fourth place and 9 points gap from the lead. They will play the Spanish Supercup semifinal against Real Madrid on Wednesday 8th January.

Before the first leg UCL round of 16 match on 19th February, Valencia will take to the pitch five more times in the league: at the Mestalla against Barcelona, Celta and Atletico de Madrid and away to Maiorca and Getafe.
