The 90-minute dream of reaching the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League semifinals faded away in the stoppage time. At the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon it ended 2-1 for Paris Saint-Germain. The comeback came at the very last moment and that hurts very much, but it doesn’t erase the great performance and the pride of having come this far.
The start was heated as Gomez and Neymar shot on goal on 3. Then Hateboer tested Navas on 11 when he headed into the ground at the back post. On the other side, Neymar was the most the dangerous: on 19 the Brazilian pulled back across the face of goal for Icardi, who didn’t get there on time. Pašalić broke the deadlock on 27 as he curled his left-foot shot into the far top corner after Zapata’s pass was intercepted. Neymar provided a few more chances for PSG before half-time.
In the second half, after 15 minutes, PSG threw on Mbappé, but minutes before his substitution, Djimsiti had the chance to double Atalanta lead, but his volley was off target. Mbappé sprinted everywhere and tested Sportiello minutes before 75 and then Palomino cleared another effort on 81. PSG concretise their efforts on 90 when Marquinhos scored the equaliser. At the 93th minute, it was a cold shower for the Nerazzurri, as Chuopo-Moting completed the comeback on a Mbappé assist. It was really a pity, the adventure in the Champions League ends here, against a very strong team, after a match in which the Nerazzurri gave everything and, for this, they come out with their head held high after an extraordinary season.
