The Colombian wing-back joins from Girona

Atalanta B.C. announce the signing of footballer Johan Mojica on loan with option to buy from Girona.

Born in Santiago de Calì on 21st August, 1992 with a double Colombian and Spanish passport, Johan is a left wing-back able to cover all the positions on the left flank thanks to his athletic abilities, his speed and his technical skills. He is skilled in both the offensive phase and the defensive one.

He came through the Academia Fútbol Club, after a spell at Llaneros in the Colombian Second Division, in December 2012, in his early twenties, he was called up to join Deportivo Calì making his debut in the Colombian top league with an assist in the match the team won against Itagüi Ditaires. After only six months, he joined Rayo Vallecano with whom on 15 September 2013 he made his debut with in the Spanish League playing in the match against Malaga, and then made his debut as a starter the following day against Barcelona. The Spanish experience continued at Real Valladolid (in Liga2), showing up with 7 goals and 7 assists in his first season (earning a place in the top 11 of the league), and then improving his personal record for assists (8) in his second one. After a brief return to Rayo Vallecano, he wore the Girona shirt from 2016-2017 and immediately helped bring the Catalan club back to the top flight. In his last season, in Liga2, he made 36 appearances, including the playoffs for the promotion.

Johan also boasts an important international experience with the Colombian national team. At the age of 22, he received his first call-up and made his debut with goals and assists playing in the last half hour of the friendly 6-0 win against Bahrain in March 2015. He also played a leading role in the 2018 World Cup, starting in all four games played by the Colombia squad (eliminated by England in the second round on penalties) and not missing even a minute of it.
