In Group D matchday 3 of the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League Liverpool, the reigning world champions, win at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
Liverpool broke the deadlock on 16 through Jota, who, set up by Alexander-Arnold, went past Sportiello and scored the opener. Muriel was the player who had the most chances for Atalanta, although just before half-time, Zapata hit the crossbar, but it was offside. The English side doubled their lead on 33, again through Jota who fired in first time into the near bottom corner. A great save from Sportiello denied Mané three minutes later.
Liverpool’s second half start was deadly as they scored three goals within nine minutes, Salah, Mané and Jota respectively.
A reaction came off the Nerazzurri, as Zapata hit the crossbar and the upright at the same time in the 63rd minute with a great curler. Zapata again tested Alisson in a difficult low save. In the final minutes, Gasperini handed out the young Nerazzurri player Ruggeri a Champions League debut, then an opportunity for both Zapata and Salah, with the two goalkeepers still protagonists. With this win, Liverpool reach 9 points in the group, while the Nerazzurri remain at 4 points.
