Juventus 3-3 Atalanta

Lookman - with a brace - and Mæhle on target

On matchday 19 of the 2022-2023 Serie A TIM Atalanta seize a thrilling 3-3 draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

LOOKMAN OPENS THE SCORING The game’s tempo was ridiculous and proof of that was the early opener scored by Lookman, who hit a rocket from Boga’s pass to beat Szczesny within five minutes. Atalanta took the lead (but lost Palomino to injury after 15 minutes; Demiral replaced him) and Juventus reacted through Di Maria, who forced a few saves off Musso. After Højlund’s header on 13 minutes that was just wide, the hosts equalised in the 25th minute thanks to a Di Maria penalty, which was awarded after a V.A.R. review, and took the lead ten minutes later through Milik, who turned Fagioli’s cross from the right into the bottom corner.

THE NERAZZURRI’S REACTION Atalanta’s response was immediate in the second half and within a minute the highest of pressing led to Scalvini intercepting the ball on the edge of the Juventus box and Mæhle beating Szczesny with an angled drive assisted by Lookman. Atalanta restored their lead on 53 minutes when Boga floated in a cross from the left and Lookman bagged another brace with a free header. However, Juventus did not stand for it and made it 3-3 on 65 minutes directly from a Danilo free kick. Both teams kept pushing until the dying minutes of the match to try to seize the win, with Toloi challenging Szczesny in the 73rd minute and de Roon proving crucial in thwarting Miretti in the 79th minute. An exciting and goal-fest game ended 3-3 at the Allianz Stadium.

TRAINING TO RESUME ON TUESDAY Gasperini’s men will now enjoy a day off. Practice at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia will resume on Tuesday 24 January as an afternoon training session will kick off preparations for the team’s next league fixture against Sampdoria.
