Matchday 6 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM saw Atalanta claim a narrow victory over Hellas Verona at the Bentegodi stadium in Verona thanks to Koopmeiners’ early goal.
A well-worked team goal broke the deadlock in the 13th minute: De Roon rolled it across and Holm carried out a dummy to leave it for Koopmeiners, who hit an angled drive into the far bottom corner with his right foot. On 26 minutes, Éderson found Pašalić in a good position yet the back-heel flick was off target. After a few Terracciano long-range attempts were muted by Carnesecchi with ease, the Nerazzurri headed into the break with a one-goal lead.
The second half was a balanced and hard-fought affair, with duels all over the pitch. Following Djimsiti’s 66th-minute header from Koopmeiners’ free-kick was wide, Gasperini’s men came really close to doubling their lead in the 80th minute when Koopmeiners whipped in a cross from the left to the back post where De Ketelaere nodded over from close range. Carnesecchi was once again put to the test in the 84th minute when he had to put a glove on Suslov’s effort from distance, while Hateboer – who came off the bench making his first appearance of the season – also had a go but Montipò was right behind his shot. Since Éderson’s injury-time strike from Hateboer’s cross went over, Koopmeiner’s goal proved enough to seize the Bentegodi.
