On matchday 33 of the 2020-2021 Serie A TIM season, it ends 1-1 against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, in a match where anything happened.
It was a lively game since the very first minutes. Malinovskyi forced a save from Consigli on 5 when he hit a ferocious free-kick. But Gollini committed a foul on Boga when outside the box. That was a clear goalscoring opportunity for the referee and the goalkeeper received a straight red card, so Sportiello came on for Pessina and Nerazzurri down to 10 men from the 22nd minute. After a finish from Locatelli deflected for a corner by Sportiello on 30, Atalanta took the lead two minutes later: Malinovksyi’s pass found Gosens, who acrobatically beat Consigli. Berardi then fired off target on 39. Before half-time, the Nerazzurri threatened again: Zapata’s goal to double Atalanta’s lead on 43 was disallowed as Hateboer was previously offside and then, Gosens’ shot on target was charged down by Chiriches.
In the second half, Sassuolo equalised on 52 through Berardi from the spot (for a collision between Toloi and Traore). The Nerazzurri didn’t give up and almost restored their lead on 58 after Hateboer’s counter, who severely tested Consigli. Locatelli saw his goal being ruled out for Raspadori’s offside. Then, on 77, Atalanta had the great chance to take the lead again: Marlon (who received a second yellow card) brought down Muriel inside the box but Consigli parried the Colombian’s spot-kick. The last chance of the game arrived in the final minutes but first Consigli and then Raspadori cleared off the line Hateboer’s and Gosens’s efforts. It ends 1-1 at the Mapei Stadium.
