2020-2021 review: Pierluigi Gollini

The season of the Nerazzurri number 95

Saving a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty is, of course, one of the moments of the 2020-2021 season that Pierluigi Gollini will never forget but he also made many other important saves: 32 matched played in total in all the competitions (25 of Serie A TIM, 3 in the UEFA Champions League, 4 in the Coppa Italia) and 12 clean-sheets. The most memorable matches when he kept the sheets clean are those of the Champions League against Liverpool and Ajax, and as for the League, the win over Milan at the Meazza Stadium and against Juventus at the Gewiss Stadium and a very important goalless tie in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal in Naples. Moreover, he saved two penalties: one by Cristian Ronaldo in a 1-1 tie at Juventus and the other one by Andrea Belotti in a 3-3 tie at home against Torino. So, here are the official League statistics of the Lega Serie A: 2.273 minutes played in total and 51 saves.

Gollini also achieved many personal goals this season: he won the APPORT award (the Italian Association of football goalkeeper coaches) as the best goalkeeper of the 2019-2020 Serie A, he hit the landmark of 100 matches in Serie A, which coincided with the 5-1 win over Sassuolo, and played his 100th match for the Nerazzurri, which Atalanta won 4-2 over Napoli.
