Atalanta v Empoli: the stats of the game

Third consecutive win within a week

Not only was the Empoli win Atalanta’s third consecutive victory within a week in all competitions after defeating Monza (in the Serie A) and Fiorentina (in the Coppa Italia); but, as pointed out by the Stats Perform’s Opta Facts report, the Nerazzurri have found their scoring ways for the 13th Serie A game. Such a lengthy streak was last registered between November 2019 and July 2020 and amounted to 13 consecutive games. Additionally, no team from the current Serie A  roster can flaunt more goals scored from outside the box (10) than Atalanta.

As Mario Pašalić broke the deadlock from the penalty spot, he found his first spot-kick goal in the Top 5 European leagues and his second goal from the spot in all competitions. Ever since his return in the Serie A (back in the 2018/19 season) with Atalanta, SuperMario is the only midfielder to have bagged 5+ goals in the last 6 seasons.

Doubling Atalanta’s lead in the second half, Ademola Lookman has now favoured 4 league goals since the beginning of April (namely, one net and 3 assists): in the selected time period, no Serie A player has done better than Mola (on par with Çalhanoglu and Saelemaekers). Additionally, Berat Djimsiti claimed his 100th Serie A win between Atalanta and Benevento.

Closing off with the figures provided by the Serie A’s official Match Report, while Aleksey Miranchuk has been the player flaunting the highest number of shots on target (4 in total, 2 on target), Pašalić is the leading force of three further standings instead; namely, in terms of: most successful passes on the offensive third (19), balls played (73) and successful passes overall (52). On par with Cambiaghi, El Bilal Tourè has been instead the benchmark in terms of goal chances (3) and key passes (3). Lastly, Isak Hien was the best Nerazzurro for ball retrievals (6).
