Atalanta v Sassuolo: the stats of the game

7th win in a row at the Gewiss Stadium and 19 different seasonal scorers

The victory over Sassuolo brought along Atalanta’s 4th consecutive league win (the 6th including also the Coppa Italia). As pointed out by the customary Stats Perform report by Opta Facts, the team has now waylaid their previous record dating back to November-December 2021, Last night, Atalanta also claimed their 7th consecutive home win at the Gewiss Stadium (hence equalling the 67/68, 19/20 and 20/21 runs), and the 8th considering also the Coppa Italia RO16 tie.

Thus far in the current Serie A season, Atalanta midfielders have scored 24 goals, 9 more than any other Italian team, and a handful away from the current European trendsetters in the Big-5 leagues -namely, Real Madrid with 26 and Manchester City with 25. During the past three seasons, no other mid has scored more goals than the Mario Pašalić (22) and Teun Koopmeiners (21) duo in the Serie A. Additionally, not only did Pašalić claim his 100th Serie A victory as a Nerazzurro; but he also celebrated the milestone with another goal, thus becoming the best-scoring midfielder in Italy ever since landing in Bergamo in the 2018/19 campaign: with 42 goals, two more than his closest pursuer, no one did better than SuperMario. Additionally, with 49 nets in all competition, thus equalling Papu Gomez’s tally, Pašalić has now become the 4th-best scorer of Gasperini’s tenure at Atalanta.

By scoring the goal to make it 3-0, not only did Mitchel Bakker find his first-ever goal as a Nerazzurro; but he also became Atalanta’s 15th different scorer in the Serie A: now tied with Fiorentina, no other team has done better than Gasperini’s men thus far. Concurrently, the tally of players etching their names on the scoreboard has now risen to 19 in all competitions.

Marco Carnesecchi also “had his hand” in last night’s outcome when, on the threshold of halftime, he denied Pinamonti’s attempt from the spot and kept Atalanta’s 1-0 lead unscathed. To be thorough, given the penalty’s reshoot following the VAR consultation, Carnesecchi repeated himself and made his first penalty save in the Serie A official.

Closing off with the individual figures provided by the Serie A’s Match Report, while Koopmeiners and Pašalić flaunt the most shots overall with 5 each; Davide Zappacosta and Aleksey Miranchuk have the best numbers in terms of shots on target (tied on 3 each). Charles De Ketelaere was instead the best player in terms of: successful passes on the last third (20),  most goal chances created (5) and most key passes provided (5). Lastly, Giorgio Scalvini topped the charts for both the most balls played (85) and the most successful passes (60).
