Atalanta’s new leftback: welcome Sead Kolašinac!

To his name 50 international appearances and 53 caps with the Bosnian side

Atalanta B.C. wish to announce the signing of Sead Kolašinac, who joins the black-and-blue Club after the season and a half (from January 2022 until June 2023) played for Olympique de Marseille, where he collected 58 appearances scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists.

The left-footed defender of Bosnian origin with German citizenship was born in Karlsruhe on the 20th of June 1993 and moved his first footballing steps with his hometown Club before joining the Academies of 1899 Hoffenheim first and then VfB Stuttgart.

Upon his signing for Schalke 04, his Bundesliga debut with the Club headquartered in Gelsenkirchen on the 15th of September 2012 was followed shortly after by his first Champions League appearance on the 4th of December 2012 against Montpellier. After playing five seasons with the German side, accruing 123 appearances, with 4 goals scored and 13 assists provided, he joined Arsenal in the 2017 summer transfer window. He scored on his debut with the North London Club in the Community Shield derby against Chelsea eventually won by Arsenal on penalties. After a loan spell between January and June 2021 at Schalke 04 (making 17 appearances, with 1 goal scored and 1 assist provided), he returned to Arsenal where he played the first half of the following season until his move to France on January 2022. With his 118 appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 15 assists, for the North London Club, his honours comprise: 1 FA Cup and 1 additional Community Shield on top of the one won in his debut season. In the 2018/19 campaign, he was selected for the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season, on the grounds of his great performances in the tournament as the Gunners received runner-up honours.

Sead Kolašinac can also flaunt a remarkable record with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team: upon his debut in 2013 after just entering his twenties, he racked up 53 caps (embellished by 5 assists), comprising his 2 appearances in the 2014 World Cup.

Saed brings a wealth of experience to Bergamo on the grounds of his over 300 overall appearances (317 to be exact) at club level between Schalke 04, Arsenal and Olympique de Marseille, underscoring his 50 appearances in UEFA competitions (namely, 13 in the UEFA Champions League, 34 in the UEFA Europa League and 3 in the UEFA Europa Conference League). After his previous stints in the Bundesliga, the Premier League and the Ligue 1, he will now try his hand at the Serie A.
