Coppa Italia Milan v Atalanta: the stats of the game

Our fourth go at the cup's semis under coach Gasperini

For the eighth time, Atalanta will be playing in the Coppa Italia semi-finals: it will be the fourth time during Gian Piero Gasperini‘s tenure – with the first dating back to 2018. With Fiorentina being the next opponent to cross the Nerazzurri’s path, Atalanta will take their mind off the National Cup until April: after the 1st leg in Florence, the return match will be played at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. Not only did the 2-1 win in Milan punch the black-and-blue ticket to the semis, but it was also Atalanta’s first Coppa Italia win away to AC Milan, bringing a streak of 4 losses and 1 draw to its end.

Teun Koopmeiners hogged the spotlight in the San Siro clash with his brace, finding his scoring ways only days after his goal against Roma at the Olimpico stadium. As pointed out by Stats Perform’s Opta Facts, since the beginning of last season and extending the scope to all competitions, the Dutchman left his mark on 24 goals (namely, 16 nets scored and 8 assists provided) only one shy of Felipe Anderson (25). These figures make Teun one of the most offensive-biased midfielders in the whole Serie A.

Closing off with the Serie A’s official Match Report: in addition to his brace, Koopmeiners soloed almost every single individual offensive stat available: in addition to flaunting the most shots both overall (4) and on target (3) – on par with Milan’s counterpart Musah-, Teun is also the Atalanta player, together with Charles De Ketelaere, with the most goal chances created (2) and the most key passes (2). While Matteo Ruggeri is the Atalantino with the most successful passes on the offensive third (15), Emil Holm is the Nerazzurro with the most balls played (72): moreover, the Swede wingback provided his first assist donning the black-and-blue shirt.
