Historic Zapata: equals Doni with 69 Serie A goals

Becoming Atalanta's best scorer in Italy's top flight

Although his goal against Frosinone didn’t suffice to bring home precious points, it enshrined Duván Zapata’s name even more in the history of the Club: on Saturday, the Colombian striker scored his 69th Serie A goal (in 153 games) as a Nerazzurro, equalling none other than Cristiano Doni, Atalanta’s all-time scorer in the Italian top flight.

His very first Serie A goal for Atalanta dates back to the 4th of November 2018 when, in the outing played in Bologna, the Cafetero striker scored the match-winner to bring Atalanta upfront 2-1 at the Dall’Ara stadium. It was the first of the 42 league victories over the course of six seasons (and counting) where Zapata left his mark. Since then, Duván scored against 24 different teams – with Sassuolo top of the list on the grounds of the 7 goals scored against the Neroverdi – and itched his name to the scoreboard in 56 matches. As for his multiple goal hauls, Duvan can flaunt: 6 braces; two hat-tricks (with the former dating to December 2018 against Udinese and the latter against Lecce) both scored away from Bergamo and the ‘poker’ against Frosinone on the 20th of January 2019. With 42 goals out of 69 scored on the opponents’ fields, figures show how his favourite “hunting grounds” are away from Bergamo; such was the case of the historic net scored against Juventus on the 27th of November 2021, when Atalanta seized the Old lady’s fief after 32 years.
