Joakim Mæhle has his name already enshrined in the history of the Club! As the Danish wingback opened the scoring by slotting the ball home after a superb finish to put the Black-and-blues ahead against Fiorentina at the Franchi stadium, his goal also marked Atalanta’s 2500th in Serie A.
With the Danish player making his mark on such a momentous and historic milestone, Atalanta’s first-ever Serie A goal was instead scored by Dario Savio back on the 26th of September 1937 in the 2-1 defeat suffered against Bologna (Matchday 3 of the 1937/38 season).
A trivia for all our stats buffs: out of the total tally of 2500 goals, as many as 497 (amounting to almost 20% of the total) have been scored under Gian Piero Gasperini’s tenure; namely, ever since the 2016-2017 campaign.
