Atalanta is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Giovanni Pirola.

Pirola donned the Atalanta shirt for four seasons, making 146 appearances in all competitions and also scoring 5 goals. He was a tenacious, determined and combative midfielder, nicknamed ‘marathon runner’ because of the kilometres he covered on the pitch. In his first season in Bergamo, he played a key role in Atalanta’s promotion to the Serie A.
