Olympique de Marseille-Atalanta: the UEL semi-final first leg in stats

The Nerazzurri are undefeated in their last 10 European outings

The First leg of the UEFA Europa League Semi-finals saw Atalanta clinch a crucial 1-1 draw at the Orange Vélodrome stadium in Marseille against hosting side Olympique de Marseille.

As pointed out by Stats Perform’s Opta Facts, Atalanta have extended their unbeaten European run away from home: the current streak of 10 consecutive undefeated outings -namely 5 wins and as many draws- already stands as the Nerazzurri’s lengthiest record.

Opening the scoring once again, Gianluca Scamacca has thus become the 4th-ever Italian player to have scored 5+ goals in a single Europa League campaign: currently sitting at six, Gianluca sheres such prestigious records with the likes of  Giuseppe Rossi (11, with Villarreal, back in the 2010/11 season), Mario Balotelli (six, with OGC Nice in the 2017/18 edition) and Ciro Immobile (8, with in the 2017/18 campaign). The black-and-blue striker has thus scored his 9th goal in his last 11 games played in all competition.

Ever since the onset of March, the only Big-5 players capable of scoring better scoring figures in all competitions are Florian Writz (10), Kylian Mbappé (11), Cole Palmer (11) and Harry Kane (12). Additionally, Scamacca has now surpassed Josip Iličić’s previous record (namely, his 5 nets back in the 2019/20 Champions League season) as the Atalantino with the highest scoring tally in a single season of a major European competition excluding qualifying rounds.

Both Atalanta’s 90 and Teun Koopmeiners, Gianluca’s wingman in the Vélodrome night, are the leading Atalantini in terms of total golas favoured in all competitions this season: both tied on 20, while the Dutchman scored 14 goals and provided 6 assists; the Italian striker has bagged 16 nets and dished out 4 key passes.

Closing off with further individual figures,  while Marten de Roon and Matteo Ruggeri lead the on-field chart for most positive passes (42 each), the Italian wingback is also the leading force in term of ball retrievals (10). While Éderson is the leading Nerazzurro for successful interceptions (3), no other player has either been embroiled in more one-on-ones (16 in total , 9 successful) or took more fouls (4) than  Charles De Ketelaere.
