A pre-season friendly in Newcastle on 29/7

International Test at St. James' Park

An international friendly is set to take place on 29 July: the Nerazzurri face Newcastle at 19:45 BST at St. James’ Park. The prestigious encounter will be held in the North East of England, at a fascinating venue with a capacity of 52.000 spectators, in the 130th year since the foundation of The Magpieswhich is the nickname of Newcastle United Football Club. It will be a test for the sides taking place a few days before the official start of the new season and that’s why it’s expected to be interesting.

Newcastle have long traditions and are preparing to participate in the English Premier League for the 91st time. They have won four national championships, six FA Cups, one FA Charity Shield and, at the international level, one European Fairs Cup. The English side’s Hall of Fame includes icons and legends of English football like Sir Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

In the latest Premier League season, Newcastle finished eleventh on 49 points under Eddie Howe (who took over the position of manager in November), thanks to an extraordinary second half of the season in which Howe’s men won 12 of the last 18 matches, a winning streak that allowed them to secure a good spot after a complicated start of the season.
