On matchday 22 of the 2023-2024 Primavera 1 TIM, coach Bosi’s Atalanta Under-19 side came from behind to defeat Empoli 2-1 at the Carrillo Pesenti in Alzano Lombardo and to catch Roma and Torino in second place on 37 points.
A very lively and hard-fought game, full of scoring opportunities, but the Nerazzurri immediately found themselves behind after five minutes when Indragoli scored from a Pardel rebound. Bosi’s side responded swiftly to level the scores on 17 minutes with a penalty won by Vavassori that was converted by captain Guerini. The Nerazzurri piled on the pressure and came close to taking the lead, first through Manzoni in the 26th minute, then with a double chance at the half-hour mark, when Fiogbe combined Vavassori but were denied by a superb save from Seghetti. A minute later, the Empoli goalkeeper did the same to Bonanomi. Atalanta’s pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when Manzoni fired the Nerazzurri ahead.
Emotions continued to run high in the second half, with the Tuscans looking for an equaliser and threatening just before the hour mark with Nabian, and especially in the 66th minute when Pardel did well to deny the visitors. The Nerazzurri had chances to put the game to bed, but Fiogbe had a 78th-minute effort disallowed, while Riccio and Camara were both denied by Seghetti. The last chance came in the 93rd minute when Fini shot wide from distance. With the final whistle blown in Alzano, the three points went to the Nerazzurri.
