With Atalanta’s Primavera defeating Frosinone 1-0 in the home match hosted at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia for the 2022/23 Primavera TIM Cup round of sixteen, Marco Fioretto and the lads have punched their ticket for the quarter-finals and are already poised to hit the pitch for the next stage – namely, in the outing against Fiorentina.
Frosinone got quicker off the mark creating the first chance 5 minutes into the game as Bertini saved Afi Ayoub’s volley.
Atalanta retorted shortly after in the 13th minute as a long pass by Del Lungo triggering Palestra’s run at goal was eventually blocked by Di Chiara, resorting to a save with his foot.
Frosinone were back again threatening Atalanta with two headers from Jirillo, respectively, in the 21st and 29th minutes (with the first ending up slightly to the side and the second one saved by the Orobic goalie).
Despite Di Chiara denying Atalanta’s goal once more, again with a foot save, this time on Falleni’s chance in the 30th minute, the Black-and-blues eventually took the lead 31 minutes into the match as Chiwisa’s surgical right-footed shot found the back of the net.
The second half picked up with Frosinone pushing hard for the draw: meanwhile, on 66 minutes, Pera’s shot from outside the box was inches over; Bertini providentially deflected with a gut reaction Selvini’s header in front of goal on 70 minutes.
Nonetheless, Atalanta got very close to doubling their lead 76 minutes into the match: as Riccio’s sharp free-kick was deflected by Stabile and the header hit the inner side of the crossbar.
The final whistle echoed through the Centro Bortolotti with 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Come Sunday, everything is already set for the rematch against Frosinone, this time with three points at stake as the two teams cross their path again for the next league commitment.
