Roma v Atalanta: the stats of the game

Atalanta debut for Hien

Atalanta’s positive run of form under Gian Piero Gasperini at the start of the year continued at the Olimpico in Rome. As Stats Perform‘s Opta stats show, the Nerazzurri have never lost their first league game of the calendar year since the coach from Grugliasco took over, with six wins and two draws in eight games.

The 1-1 draw with the Giallorossi saw Teun Koopmeiners score his fourth goal of this domestic campaign – all away from home after nets against Fiorentina, Hellas Verona and Empoli -, becoming the Serie A’s top scorer away from home with four goals this season.

Another game and another assist for Aleksey Miranchuk: a few days after his goal and his key pass in the Coppa Italia clash against Sassuolo, the attacking midfielder has shown his offensive prowess once again.
So much so that no other Serie A player has dished out more assists (4, tied with Christian Pulisic) than Atalanta’s number 59 in all competitions since December.

Coming off the bench in the second half, Davide Zappacosta made his 100th Serie A appearance for Atalanta. The closing minutes of the game also witnessed Isak Hien’s debut as a Nerazzurro, hitting the pitch only a few days after his signing from Hellas Verona.

Closing off with further insights provided by the customary Serie A’s official Match Report: while Giorgio Scalvini was the Atalanta player with the most balls played (67), the most successful passes (42), and also the most effective in the final third (9); Koopmeiners was instead the Nerazzurro, on par with Miranchuk, flaunting the best figures in terms of goalscoring chances created (2) and key passes (2).
