Atalanta’s eight-match unbeaten run in the Serie A TIM 2023-2024 was snapped at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan as league leaders Inter won 4-0 in the rescheduling of matchday 21.
Atalanta had the first chance of the game when De Ketelaere had the ball in the net on 10 minutes, but his goal was disallowed after a VAR check for a possible handball by Miranchuk in the build-up when he collided with Bastoni. Miranchuk had a shot over in the 17th minute, while Lautaro fired wide on 25 minutes. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 26th minute through Darmian, who came close to doubling their lead three minutes later, only for Carnesecchi to deny him. After Lautaro hit the top of the crossbar on 40 minutes, the Argentine striker added a second in stoppage time from the edge of the area.
Carnesecchi denied Dimarco with his leg early in the second half, but the hosts extended their lead in the 55th minute when VAR awarded them a penalty for another handball: Carnesecchi managed to save Lautaro’s spot-kick but could do nothing about Dimarco’s tap-in. Frattesi added a fourth on 71 minutes from a Sanchez free kick.
The team will resume training tomorrow, Thursday 29 February, with a behind-closed-door session at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia.
