Among many Atalanta players who proved themselves on the pitch during the international break, the players who stood out were surely Josip Iličić and Joakim Mæhle. Three goals were scored by the Slovenian player (two of them in the match won over Malta, one in the defeat against Miranchuk’s Russia), two goals were bagged by the Danish, the last one of which brought a win over Austria and the qualification for Denmark for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Together with them, there’s one of the midfield’s pillars of Atalanta, the Dutch Marten de Roon, who was also called up to his national team for the next World Cup qualifiers.
