Matchday 4 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM saw the hosts win 3-2 at the Franchi stadium in Florence.
Gasperini’s men got off to a strong start and offered plenty of threat from the get-go, as a Koopmeiners shot was wide and a Zappacosta effort on 11 minutes was turned over the bar by the Fiorentina goalkeeper. The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when De Roon rolled across from the left to Koopmeiners, who hit a left-foot shot from the edge of the box that was deflected off a Fiorentina defender and went into the far bottom corner. Bonaventura found a 35th-minute equaliser as he controlled and turned inside the box and, after Carnesecchi smothered a Fiorentina chance four minutes later, Quarta’s 45th-minute header gave the hosts the half-time lead.
Atalanta were determined to find the equaliser in the second half and after a few opportunities from Lookman, it was no. 11 himself who pulled us level in the 53rd minute after a one-two with De Roon, who provided his second assist of the day. Gonzalez had a go at the hour mark but his soft touch finish went wide and despite Carnesecchi’s huge 74th-minute save on Brekalo’s curler, the hosts restored their lead two minutes later through Kouame. The Nerazzurri pushed hard in the final minutes in search of an equaliser but the scoreline remained unchanged.
