Matchday 10 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM saw the Nerazzurri claim a convincing 3-0 victory at the “Carlo Castellani – Computer Gross Arena” in Empoli thanks to a Scamacca brace and a goal from Koopmeiners in between. This is Atalanta’s eighth positive result in their last nine league and UEFA Europa League games (six victories, two draws and one single defeat) and their seventh clean sheet in ten league matches.
Gasperini’s men donned the fully red “Bergamo City Edition” kit for the very first time this season and got off to a powerful start, taking the lead five minutes into the match: a Lookman through ball found Scamacca, who beat Berisha with a spectacular back-heel goal. Scamacca took centre stage again when his 17th-minute curler clipped the post and had the ball in the net again three minutes later but his effort was disallowed as Koopmeiners was offside in the build-up. Inspired Scamacca had another go in the 23rd minute, as his header from Hateboer’s cross was beaten away by Berisha before the Empoli goalkeeper made another save, this time on Ruggeri’s left-foot attempt. The second goal had been coming and became a reality on 29 minutes when Scamacca set up Koopmeiners, who doubled Atalanta’s lead by beating Berisha with a first-time left-foot shot.
Toloi came off the bench at the restart and within six minutes Scamacca made it 3-0, as de Roon intercepted a ball in the final third and laid it off for the Atalanta striker, who completed his brace with a ferocious kick. While the Italian striker produced another scoring threat in the 58th minute, firing over after a corner, Musso was tested by Cambiaghi’s angled drive one minute later. Scamacca could have also bagged a hat-trick in the 62nd minute when his right-foot scorcher smacked against the crossbar, while Fazzini had a go for the hosts on 80 minutes but his finish was deflected wide. With Hateboer’s effort saved by Berisha, the game at Empoli ended in a 3-0 for the Nerazzurri.
