The season 2020-2021 was the first season in Atalanta for Viktor Kovalenko. The Ukrainian midfielder joined the team in February at the end of the winter transfer market. He came from Shakhtar Donetsk with whom he had played the Ukrainian championship and the UEFA Champions League. Despite he played only one match with Atalanta in Serie A TIM, these months have been precious for him to get to know the team and Italian football.

He made his debut on March 21 in the League’s away match at Verona won 2-0 by Atalanta. Viktor Kovalenko replaced his compatriot Malinovskyi in the final mintues of the match, contributing to gaining full points, and playing his first match in the Italian League. Then the official Serie A statistics about the league: 6 minutes played, 0,859 km run on average per game.

He played with the Ukrainian national team both the UEFA Nations League and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers as he made six appearances overall during the latest season.
