A 5-0 win over Frosinone to kick off our 2nd half of the season

3 goals in the opening 15 minutes, followed by Zappacosta's and Holm's contribution

Atalanta kicked off the second half of the Serie A season in style with a five-goal victory over Frosinone at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. On matchday 20 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM, the Nerazzurri took control of the game with three goals in the first fifteen minutes.

After a bright start, the Nerazzurri broke the deadlock early on when Holm broke down the right and Lusuardi fouled him in the box to award Atalanta a penalty, which Koopmeiners converted in the eighth minute. The lead was doubled on 13 minutes: Ruggeri’s cross from the left found Éderson, who burst into the box and beat Turati. Another goal was added a minute later when de Roon spread it for De Ketelaere, whose left-footed shot thumped the underside of the crossbar before ending in the net. Gasperini’s men came close to making it 4-0 through Éderson, who was denied by Okoli on 24 minutes, and then Scamacca, whose header was beaten away by Turati. Carnesecchi was also called into action to keep out Mazzitelli’s 40th-minute effort. Mazzitelli also had another chance on the stroke of half-time, which went over.

The second half began with Cheddira turning and firing a shot that Carnesecchi tipped over for a corner before the Frosinone striker had another effort saved. However, the Nerazzurri were in full control and threatened a fourth through Muriel and Miranchuk. Carnesecchi kept his clean sheet with a fine save from Ghedjemis in the 81st minute before Miranchuk sparked a counter-attack that saw Zappacosta curl the ball into the top corner to make it 4-0 on 84 minutes. It was not all over, however, as Holm scored his first goal for Atalanta in the 90th minute following a corner.

The result sees the Nerazzurri move up to fifth in the standings, closing the gap on Lazio to 33 points. The team will now enjoy a day off as training resumes at the Centro Bortolotti on Wednesday afternoon with a behind-closed-door session.
