500 games as a Serie A coach for Gasperini

He his this prestigious landmark against Inter

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini hit an important and prestigious landmark, as Atalanta’s game against Inter was his 500th match as a Serie A manager. In addition to his games in charge of Atalanta, he was also at the helm of Genoa (with whom he made his debut in the Italian top-flight on the 26th of August in 2007), Inter and Palermo. His teams won 218 times and scored 803 goals in these 500 matches.

Gasperini has been at the helm of Atalanta for almost half of these matches; the coach from Grugliasco has taken charge of 243 games for Atalanta since landing in Bergamo in the summer of 2016. He is three matches away from Emiliano Mondonico, who holds the record for league games on the Atalanta bench with 246 (170 matches in Serie A and 76 in Serie B). In absolute terms, Gasperini is already leading both in terms of overall games (306) and in the top flight (243 precisely). His tally is also significant, as he got 127 wins and 62 draws in 243 games in charge of Atalanta, with his team scoring 471 goals and notching up 443 points.

Just how prestigious it is to hit the 500-game landmark in the Serie A is also shown by another statistic reported by Stats Perform – Opta, as he has become the third manager in the three points for a win era to reach such a milestone after Francesco Guidolin (545) and Luciano Spalletti (536).
