Group A matchday 25 of the 2023-2024 Serie C NOW saw the visitors run out 2-1 winners as Atalanta’s late comeback didn’t pan out. This is the first setback for the Nerazzurri in 2024.
Despite Vicenza’s best efforts in the opening minutes, not only did the Atalanta defence weather the storm, but Modesto’s lads gave tit-for-tat in the 12th minute with Capone, who went solo and, after dribbling past half of the opposing defence starting from his midfield, couldn’t find the proper finish. Briefly after, on 14 minutes, it was Gyabuaa who, after gathering Ghislandi’s daisy-cutter pass, sent his first-time drill off target. 24 minutes into the game and another chance for Atalanta: this time with Capone, who smacked the bar with his stunning ranged finish from outside of the box. After a scramble in the box in the 26th minute, Vicenza took the lead through Rolfini. Unhampered by the goal conceded, coach Modesto’s lads kept pushing, going all out for the equaliser: 32 minutes in and Capone laid a through ball to unleash Ghislandi in the box. With his attempt, the U23s’ number 14 forced Confente to deflect it out for a corner.
After the visiting side doubled their lead through Ferrari in the 59th minute, the Nerazzurri did not give in and pushed hard to spark a comeback. Falleni hit a right-foot volley to pull one back on 93 minutes and Modesto’s lads had a last-minute chance to level the scores, but a corner in the 95th minute went wide. The result ended Atalanta’s winning run at 6 games.
