The rescheduled fixture of the 2023-2024 Serie C NOW Group A matchday 14 saw the Atalanta Under-23s return to winning ways in the league as Cissé’s and Ghislandi’s first-half goals earned Modesto’s lads a convincing 2-1 victory over third-placed Triestina at the “Città di Caravaggio” stadium in Caravaggio.
The Nerazzurri got off to a strong start and broke the deadlock four minutes into the match through Cissè, who gathered the ball from Di Serio and scored his third goal of the season. The Guinean striker nearly completed a brace in the 11th minute with a scorcher from the edge of the box that Matosevic turned behind. Di Serio also had a go in the 20th minute when the ball slipped off the Triestina goalkeeper’s hands. On 35 minutes, Cortinovis set up Palestra, whose effort was off target before Ghislandi doubled Atalanta’s lead five minutes later assisted by Gyabuaa. Correia tried to ignite Triestina’s comeback with a top corner-bound header that Vismara parried.
In the second half, the Under-23s threatened again in the 55th minute, with a Del Lungo shot from distance, and on 58 minutes, with a Mallamo curler from outside the box that was off target. While Varnier’s 60th-minute tackle denied one of Triestina’s strikers, the visitors pulled one goal back eight minutes later through Adorante. Although Triestina threatened the equaliser on 82 minutes, Vismara was well alert and prevented Adorante’s brace. The Nerazzurri held out until the end and brought home three huge points.
