Coppa Italia semi-final Atalanta v Fiorentina: the stats of the game

Figures from the Gewiss Stadium return match

With the 4-1 win over Fiorentina, Atalanta punched their ticket to the 2023/24 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa final, making their sixth historic feature in the tournament’s Grand Finale and their third appearance since Gian Piero Gasperini‘s appointment. As pointed out by Stats Perform’s Opta Facts, the Nerazzurri are the first team since the 2014/15 season to have made it to the final despite losing the first leg of the semis.
By opening the scoring in the Gewiss Stadium game, Teun Koopmeiners has become the first Atalanta player to have found his scoring ways for three consecutive Coppa Italia games. Furthermore, the Dutchman is now both the best-scoring midfielder in the current Cup’s edition (with 3 goals) and the Serie A mid with the highest scoring tally among all competitions thus far with 14. Moreover, having favoured 19 goals (namely, 14 nets and 5 assists) in total Teun is but one goal shy of Christian Pulisic’s figures (with the Milan attacker sitting at 21 overall – 13 goals, 8 assists).
With 8 goals scored in his last 11 Atalanta appearances in all competitions, no other Serie A striker can flaunt better figures than Gianluca Scamacca, who made it 2-1 with a stunning acrobatic finish, since early March: despite Christian Pulisic’s 5 goals, the USA forward is till 3 goals away from Atalanta number 90s.
Atalanta are one of the only three Big-5 teams, with the other two being Manchester City and Aston Villa, capable of flaunting at least two midfielders with an offensive contribution of 19+ goals in all competitions this season: namely, Koopmeiners (14 goals and 5 assists) and De Ketelaere (11 goals and 8 assists).
With the 3-1 goal bearing the signature of Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian striker has now reached double-digit scoring figures in all competitions for the second time in his career ever since landing in the Big-5 European leagues after his previous stint last season (when he scored 15 goals in 33 Atalanta appearances).

Closing off with the customary individual figures provided by the Serie A’s official Match Report, while Scamacca led the chart for most shots fired (4) ahead of Matteo Ruggeri and De Ketelaere (both tied at 3), the Belgian striker hogged the limelight as far as goal chances created (3), key passes (3) and successful passes on the offensive third (15, on par with Koopmeiners) are concerned. With 8 retrievals to 7, it was Ruggeri who overtook De Ketelaere this time.  While Berat Djimsiti was the absolute benchmark in terms of balls touched (82), Mario Pašalić, who left his mark closing the black-and-blue goleada with the fourth goal of the night, registered a passing accuracy score of 97%.
