It’s his fifth year with the Nerazzurri. He arrived in Bergamo for the 2015-2016 season, then he transferred to the Premier League to Middlesbrough for a campaign, and then he returned to Atalanta. Marten de Roon has played 213 matches, scored 11 goals, provided 14 assists and spent 17.332 minutes on the pitch with Atalanta so far and he immediately developed a strong bond with the fans of Bergamo.

“Our fans are very bound to the team. Even in my first year in Bergamo when we were fighting for safety, the Stadium was always full. Maybe because they are similar to the Dutch: we believe that you have to work and sweat hard in anything you do. My family and I are very happy in Bergano”.

There are five more matches to play before the end of the season: four of them are worth a spot in the Champions League and the one is the Coppa Italia final that takes place on May 19.

“I hoped that the end of the season would be like this. Of course, we did well in recent years, as well. We fought for a spot in Europe and we are doing it this year, too. This season is even more exciting because of the Coppa Italia Final”.

Parma, Benevento and Genoa will be the next opponents and then, to end this Serie A season, there will be a head-to-head against Milan in which Atalanta will fight for a spot in the Champions League. The Coppa Italia Final is scheduled between the fixtures against Genoa and Milan. Now the calendar offers three matches within 7 days: there’s an away match at the Tardini, there’s a game at the Gewiss Stadium on Wednesday and on Saturday the match will take place at 15 CEST at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

“We must be careful about all the matches. We are among the 5 teams that are fighting for three places in the Champions League. We must try to win all the matches that are left to play. It will be hard, difficult but it will be so for each team”.
