On matchday 5 of the 2022-2023 Primavera 1 TIM “Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti” championship, coach Fioretto’s Atalanta Under-19 team beat Sampdoria 2-1 at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia, sealing the first victory of the season.
Atalanta got off to a great start as they scored the opener after 25 seconds after De Nipoti pressed high and won the ball in the opposing box and set up Vavassori, who beat the goalkeeper at the second attempt. On 13 minutes De Nipoti triggered Palestra, who fired wide, and then his close-range effort on 25 minutes was blocked by a defender. Bertini pulled off a flying save to turn Pozzato’s shot over the bar on 26 minutes and Bevilacqua tested the goalkeeper at the half-hour mark. After an attempt from Cecchini in the 35th minute, De Nipoti doubled Atalanta’s lead in the 37th minute, as he converted a penalty.
Bertini denied Polli in the opening minutes of the second half and the Atalanta shot-stopper had to make another save on Montevago in the 72nd minute. Sampdoria pulled one back on 76 minutes through Montevago himself, who turned in Leonardi’s finish that had bounced off the post. The visitors pushed hard until the end looking for an equaliser but the Atalanta defenders held out well to seal the 2-1 victory.
