Honours even at the Omero Tognon stadium as the rescheduling of the 2023-2024 Serie C NOW (Group A) MD33 match between hosting side Triestina and Atalanta Under-23s culminated in a 1-1 draw in a game marked by Comi’s professional debut and Vlahović’s third league goal.
In with the first chance of the game, Triestina threatened on 12 minutes as Lescano’s header flew off target. Not short in coming, Atalanta’s retaliation arrived five minutes later through Palestra, whose shot ended up too straight down the middle. 23 minutes on the stopwatch and it was Vismara who hogged the limelight this time with a crucial on-rushing save on El Azrak. History didn’t repeat itself on 29 minutes as the “carbon copy” tactic that gave Atalanta the lead against Mantova didn’t pan out as hoped: although Capone’s through ball ignited Diao, Matosevic did well to keep out the ball. Vismara made another excellent save to deny Moretti on 34 minutes, and a minute later Capone came close to giving Atalanta the lead on the counterattack, but again Matosevic denied the Nerazzurri’s efforts and deflected the ball out for a corner.
Pitching their attacking statement as early as 1 minute after halftime, Atalanta opened the second half on the offensive through Capone, whose ranged show ended up over the bar. Upon being fed a lovely daisy-cutter pass by Jimenez on the 64th, Capone had another brush with the goal as his first-time effort smashed the post. 71 minutes in and Vismara once again muted Lescano’s chance with a key save. Despite Triestina taking the lead on 76 minutes via Pavlev’s volley finisher on Correia’s cross, Atalanta U23s did not back down and upped the ante in the 87th minute, when Vlahović’s paw on Ceresoli’s mid-overhead kick proved itself decisive to level the scoring.
