UCL Atalanta 1-1 Midtjylland

Romero on target for the Nerazzurri

In the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League Group D matchday 5, the match against Midtjylland ends 1-1 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. Thanks to this draw, the Nerazzurri now sit in second place in the group on 8 points.

After a nice block from Djimsiti on 8, Hateboer and Zapata had a double chance on 9: the Dutch tested the visitors’ goalkeeper, then the Colombian fired over the follow-up from close range. Visitors took the lead on 13 through a great shot from Scholz. It was an uphill game, as Midtjylland pressing high and defended well. Pessina’s left-foot strike was wide on 32.

In the second half Gasperini threw on Iličić and Diallo to try shake things up. On 76 first Diallo forced a save when he ran clear on goal, then Zapata fired the rebound over. Another attempt came off Diallo when he tested the visiting goalkeeper, but Atalanta finally equalised through Romero who scored a wonderful header on a Hateboer cross. It ended 1-1 at the Gewiss Stadium: in the last matchday against Ajax, the round of 16 qualification will be up for grabs.
