The game started with Zappacosta’s and Malinovskyi’s attempts, who were not much of a threat to Gulacsi. Leipzig took the lead in the 18th minute through Nkunku, who fired in from close range assisted by Laimer. The Nerazzurri had the chance to equalize with Koopmeiners on 35 minutes, but his finish was blocked by a defender.
In the second half, there was a handball in the wall from Malinovskyi’s free kick on 50 minutes, but the referee did not award the penalty to the Nerazzurri after checking the VAR and waved play on. Boga had an attempt in the 70th minute, his scorcher was inches over. Leipzig doubled their lead on 87 minutes through Nkunku, who converted a penalty to put the game to bed.
