The first chance of the game came off Muriel, who fired over on 9 minutes. Two minutes later, Pessina shattered the crossbar but was offside. Malinovskyi’s left-foot shot tested Cragno in the 29th minute, and that was the best chance of the first half. 

In the second half, the deadlock was broken on 50 minutes by Pereiro, who scored for Cagliari. Two minutes later, the Nerazzurri went down to 10 men as Musso was sent off, who fouled Pereiro on the edge of the box. Rossi was thrown on. Despite being one man down, Palomino scored the equalizer in the 64th minute, as he headed in the follow-up from Cragno’s save on Zapata. However, the visitors went on the counter and Pereiro bagged a brace, restoring the lead for Cagliari. The Nerazzurri, with new signings Boga and Mihaila on the pitch, making their debut for Atalanta, tried hard until the end but Cagliari kept the victory.
