Atalanta v Lazio: the stats of the game

Gasperini's 150th Serie A win with the Club

As the final whistle brought about the win against Lazio, Atalanta claimed their 6th consecutive victory at the Gewiss Stadium, their seventh if we also add the Coppa Italia into the equation. As pointed out by Stats Perform’s Opta Facts, a similar winning streak in the league last occurred in May 2021 (in that instance, the run stopped at seven). Moving on to Gian Piero Gasperini, our coach claimed his 150th league win at the helm of Atalanta, thus entering the Serie A’s historic top five of trainers in terms of “highest win count with a single team” together with the likes of Giovanni Trapattoni (213) and Massimiliano Allegri (200) both with Juventus, Carlo Ancelotti with AC Milan (163) and Helenio Herrera with Inter (159). Additionally, he’s the first Atalanta coach to have reached a tally of 150 Serie A victories.

The opener to the 3-1 win was courtesy of Mario Pašalić who, ever since donning the Atalanta shirt for the first time in the 2018/19 season, is the midfielder with the highest number of goals scored in the Serie A (41). The assist was provided by none other than Giorgio Scalvini, currently the youngest Italian player to have dished out two assists in the league thus far this season.

Breaking in his multiple goal-haul ability against Lazio, Charles De Ketelaere crowned the 3-1 with his first Serie A brace: on the grounds of the 5 goals scored and the 6 assists provided, he is one of the only three Under-23 players (hence born from 2001 onward and with the others being Matías Soulé and Joshua Zirkzee)  to have been involved in at least 10 goals in the league thus far this season. Having featured on the scoreboard 12 times (namely, with 7 goals and 5 assists) ever since last December, no other Serie A player has done better than the Belgian forward in all competitions in the same period of time. Additionally, CDK is also the youngest footballer to have scored 5+ goals and delivered 5+ assists in the current Serie A campaign.

Having played his 200th Serie A match (and his 170th with Atalanta) Berat Djimsiti has become the third Albanian player to have reached this milestone ever since the introduction of the 3-points-per-win era (back in the 1994/95 season) after Erjon Bogdani (253) and Elseid Hysaj (287). Aged 17 years and 224 days today, Leonardo Mendicino is the second-youngest Atalanta Serie A debutant during the 3-points-per-win era after Amad Diallo (who played his first minutes as an Atalantino in the Udinese game on the 27th of October 2019, aged 17 years and 108 days). Nonetheless, having already featured in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League away win against Raków played last December, this wasn’t the 06s midfielder’s absolute debut.

Closing off with the customary individual insights provided by the Serie A’s official Match Report, with 3 attempts each, De Ketelaere, Pašalić and Scalvini were the players with the highest number of shots fired during the game. De Ketelaere was also the player with the most shots on target (2), successful passes in the final third (14, ahead of Matteo Ruggeri with 13) and successful dribbles (3, on par with Emil Holm). Aleksey Miranchuk took the crown for most goal chances created (5, ahead of Scalvini with 3) and most key passes (5). Lastly, Marten de Roon is the leading Nerazzuro for most balls played: 83, one clear of Djimsiti who instead led the team’s chart for successful passes (67).
