Carnesecchi gets hand in glove with the Player of the month

From a joint venture with ItalianOptic

Carnesecchi has his tentacles wrapped around everything and everywhere of late: this time it was the Player of the Month Award of March that got entangled in his coils. After taking the ItalianOptic polls by storm, the Atalanta goalie saw off the fierce competition of Scamacca and Koopmeiners, runner-up and bronze medal of this month’s pageant.

Already a serious contender for the POTM award in February, when he got mere fingertips away from glory, Carnesecchi had to bow down to a relentless De Ketelaere. Marco made up for such a close brush in March, claiming his first-ever feature in the Player of The Month yearbook. What tipped the scale in Carnesecchi’s favour in March were surely the save on Calafiori’s point-blank header in Atalanta v Bologna and the cat-like reflexes showcased to nullify Osimhen’s rebound on Lobotka’s ranged shot in the road victory against Napoli, where Carnesecchi also won the sympathies of the Nerazzurri fans to claim the Man of the Match award.

After the runner-up honours claimed back in October, Gianluca Scamacca made his comeback on the second step of the podium mainly thanks to his key contribution in the UEL RO16 tie against Sporting, where he etched his name on both games, and due to his banger against Napoli. For his third month in a row, the bronze medal bears the name of Teun Koopmeiners; to whom the motto “good things come in three” is more than a mantra, having scored three goals last month – namely, his brace against Juventus and the closing net in the Napoli game right after coming off the bench.

For a “crash session” about the month’s POTM podium, check the highlights of the Napoli vs. Atalanta game, which saw both Scamacca and Koopmeiners on the scoresheet, and where Carnesecchi sealed the team’s clean sheet with a paramount save on Osimhen.

Kudos to Marco for bringing the POTM award in between the three sticks after a 5-year drought! Stay tuned to Atalanta BC’s networks for what’s to come!
