Salernitana v Atalanta: the stats of the game

Third consecutive league win for the Nerazzurri

In addition to the Nerazzurri’s third consecutive league win, the Salerno game was also marked by Gian Piero Gasperini‘s 300th Serie A game at the helm of Atalanta, another milestone in a tenure graced by 156 wins and 578 goals scored.

With Gianluca Scamacca levelling the game for the Orobic team, as pointed out by Stats Perform’s Opta Facts, over the course of the two calendar months (since the 6th of March), only two players across Europe’s Big-5 leagues have scored more goals than Gianluca Scamacca in all competitions (10, on par with Florian Wirtz): namely, Cole Palmer (12) and Harry Kane (11). Additionally, not only did Gianluca find his scoring ways in 4 back-to-back league games – a personal career first – in Salerno; but the striker born in 1999 has now reached double-digit goal figures for the second time across for the second time in his  Top-5 European championship stint since the 16 nets bagged with Sassuolo back in the 2021/22 campaign.

As Teun Koopmeiners scored the match-winner, the Oranje mid has now become the first Dutch player to have scored 12+ Serie A goals in a single season since Ruud Gullit’s best back in the 1994/95 campaign. Moreover, the Nerazzurri player is the midfielder with the highest tally of open-play goals (levelled with Pulisic’s 10) in the current top-flight campaign. Lastly, Teun Koopmeiners (with 8) and Mario Pašalić (seven), who dished out the winning key pass for Teun’s net in the Arechi game, are two out of the three midfielders to have favoured the most Serie A goals since the 1st of February 2024 – with the last one being Luis Alberto, also with seven.

And now, to close off with the customary individual figures provided by the Serie A’s official Match Report, while Scamacca shares with Tchaouna the record for most shots fired (5) and with Ademola Lookman the best figures in terms of goal chances created (4 each) and key-passes provided (4); the Nigerian striker picks up the gong for ball retrievals (12). Captain Marten de Roon is instead the on-field benchmark in terms of both balls played (96) and successful passes (78). While Charles De Ketelaere is the touchstone for completed dribbles(4), Pašalić leads for most successful passes on the offensive third (24).
