The UEFA Europa League quarter-final draw

Atalanta wait to know their next opponents

The UEFA Europa League Final 8 draw, which will take place today, Friday 15 March, at 13:00 CET in Nyon will feature the 8 winners who came out winners from the RO16 knockout – which took place between Match 6/7 and 14- and are listed below in alphabetical order: Atalanta (ITA), Bayer Leverkusen (GER), Benfica (POR), Liverpool (ENG), Milan (ITA), Olympique Marseille (FRA), Roma (ITA) and West Ham (ENG)

Unlike the previous round, in addition to the absence of seeded and unseeded teams, all vetos are lifted as far as the quarterfinal draw is concerned: hence, matchups between teams from the same countries or who have already faced each other in the Group Stage are allowed.

But how will the draw unravel? As notified by UEFA, the eight marbles, each one representing one of the eight teams who have qualified for the UEL quarterfinals, will be shuffled in a pot before being eventually drafted. The first pairing drawn will play its first match at home against the second pairing drawn. This process will be repeated until completion; namely, until all remaining marbles in the pot are paired. The final outcome of such procedure is aimed at determining the make-up of each quarterfinal tie, scheduled for Thursday, April 11 (1st leg) and Thursday, April 18 (2nd leg).

In addition to the last-8 draw, the Nyon raffle will also formalise the state of things as far as  “home” and “away” teams are concerned regarding the following stages: from the semi-finals (to take place between May 2 and 9) to the Final (for which the “home team” is to be determined for administrative purposes only) to kick off in Dublin on May 22.
