Gasperini’s 250 Serie A games at the helm of Atalanta

A victory to celebrate this landmark

Gian Piero Gasperini reached another career milestone in the game at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, as the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 victory over Lazio was the coach’s 250th Serie A match in charge of Atalanta.

The black-and-blue coach has become the third manager in the three-points-for-a-win era to hit this landmark at the helm of a single club. Before him, the coaches to reach this milestone were Carlo Ancelotti – 283 games with AC Milan – and Marcello Lippi – 258 with Juventus.
Massimiliano Allegri also hit this landmark with Juventus in the latest league round of Serie A.

Fleshing out these 250 Serie A matches in charge of Atalanta, the manager from Grugliasco has clinched 131 victories (52,4%) and drawn 64 games at the helm of the Orobic club, for a total of 457 points.

Gasperini has been in charge of Atalanta since the 2016-2017 season; his first match as the manager of the Orobici was, coincidentally, against Lazio: it was the 21st of August 2016 and the fixture held in front of the Bergamo crowd culminated in a 3-4 defeat.

His 50th match at the helm of Atalanta dates back to the 5th of November 2017 (Atalanta 1-1 Spal), while his 100th game was on the 16th of February 2019 (Atalanta 1-3 Milan). The Rossoneri were Atalanta’s opponents also on the occasion of his 150th match: the away match against Milan, which took place on the 25th of July 2020, ended in a 1-1 draw.

And here we are at his game number 200, which fell on the 27th of October 2021 and saw Atalanta edge Sampdoria by a 1-3 scoreline. The rest is very recent history!
