Player of the Season – Ademola Lookman

With a clean sweep, Ademola Lookman seized the crown for the best goalscorer (15 goals) and best assist provider (6 assists) of the team, in his first season for Atalanta nonetheless! Nothing short of a dream debut for Mola, who took the black-and-blue fanbase by storm so much as to be the first name crossing the mind of all the Atalantini swarming the ItalianOptic poll: the Player of The Season it’s now here for the taking!

Our Dutch duo closes the podium: while Teun Koopmeiners ended up second on the grounds of his double-digit scoring tally also thanks to his two hat-tricks (with only Manchester City striker Haaland having scored more three-goal hauls this season), his fellow midfielder Marten de Roon closes the podium being the player with the highest playing time of the season – accruing the impressive overall of 3,099 minutes of undoubted quality and quantity.

May-June – Teun Koopmeieners

The one and only Teun Koopmeiners, ladies and gentlemen! As the Oranje midfielder was rightfully crowned ItalianOptic Player of The Month for the May-June edition, Teun’s (yet again) fantastic season for Atalanta literally came full circle after his victory in the POTM awards for August and September!

We can safely say that what really tipped the balance in Teun’s favour and made our fans lean for Koop in the polls was the hat-trick scored against Monza on matchday 38 (and, well, who could possibly blame them?). Nor was it a hat-trick “like any other”, but a perfect one nonetheless: a headed goal to open the score sheet, followed by a right-footed one and the left-footed banger from the midfield line to top it all off – truly a sight to behold and already etched in the record books.

Second comes Davide Zappacosta and on the lowest step of the podium de Roon.

April – Éderson

Following the idiom, slow and steady Éderson has eventually won the race, imposing himself as a literal pivot of the black-and-blue midfield by all means: as his consistency indeed paid off and didn’t go unnoticed, the Atalanta fans rewarded his performances with the ItalianOptic Player of The Month award of April! Éderson’s first, nonetheless!

This time the apprentice has surpassed the master, as Marten de Roon transferred the sceptre dropping to the second step of the podium. Duván Zapata closes the trio making his return to the POTM podium thanks to his goal (and what a goal we dare say) against Torino.

March – Marten de Roon

With last month’s award slipping away from his grasp as he clinched the silver medal, this time he ticked all the right boxes to bring the trophy home: Marten de Roon claims his first Player of the Month of the season thanks to his stunning performances, his usual personality and his header against Empoli!

On the second step of the podium sits Rasmus Højlund, while Rafael Toloi, the black-and-blue captain, closes the podium.

February – Rasmus Højlund

Once again Rasmus! After winning his first award last December, Højlund is back again on the throne, as he seized his second seasonal triumph in the Player of The Month pageant after his shoo-in at the poll held through the ItalianOptic app!

Second comes Marten de Roon and the reigning champion Ademola Lookman closes the top three.

January – Ademola Lookman

Mola is back! With Lookman literally picking up where he left off, Mola went on an impressive scoring spree of three consecutive braces in January (namely the ones scored week in and week out against Salernitana, Spezia and Juventus) and coming full circle with his single goal against Sampdoria as the cherry on top.

Our January Player of the Month winner was joined by Rasmus Højlund and Jérémie Boga on the podium.

December – Rasmus Højlund

Rasmus’ first hit on the motherlode! Despite a December bereft of any official fixture, Atalanta were nonetheless embroiled with four friendly international commitments and our Danish diamond in the rough clinched his first-ever Player Of the Month Award! His goal and assist against Eintracht Frankfurt, his goal against OGC Nice and his relentless eagerness to fight for every single ball are a quick recap and glimpse of all his credits for this month’s POTM.

Ademola Lookman settled for the second step on the podium, while hird came Éderson.

November – Ademola Lookman

Back-to-back awards for Ademola Lookman, who has been awarded the Player of The Month recognition for November as well! The scales tipped in Ademola’s favour thanks to his two goals scored in November, both from the penalty spot with ballistic precision, to put Atalanta in the lead against Napoli and Inter.

The Nigerian striker went toe-to-toe with a fierce Joakim Mæhle, runner-up of this month’s pageant, and Giorgio Scalvini, who finished third.

October – Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman claimed his first-ever ItalianOptic Player of the Month award in October!

The outcome of the voting was never in question, as Mola bluntly annihilated the competition, scoring 4 goals in 5 games: the match-winner against Fiorentina, the match-opener in Udine, another goal to make it three points against Sassuolo and the one to seal the win over Empoli. The key role of these goals was the factor that tipped the scales in Lookman’s favour for the pick of this POTM voting, it goes without saying.

Luis Muriel and Marco Sportiello joined him on the podium.

September – Teun Koopmeiners

Teun Koopmeiners did it again as he was also named Player of the Month for September!

To have a better month than the previous one was by no means easy, but Teun enchanted again, thanks to all-round performances, leading the team in the most difficult moments; the assist for Demiral against Cremonese and the hat-trick against Torino definitely encouraged our fans to name him POTM again.

He was joined on the podium by Rasmus Højlund and Rafael Toloi.

August – Teun Koopmeiners

The Atalanta fans cast their vote on the ItalianOptic app and named Teun Koopmeiners as the first Player of the Month of the 2022/23 season!

Teun, who has been the star of the first games of the season, picked up the gong thanks to his performance in the month of August; the Dutchman stood out for his great quantity (he is the sixth midfielder in Serie A in terms of kilometres run on the average per game), but above all for his excellent quality, most notably the winning goal in the away match in Verona.

He was joined on the podium by Merih Demiral and Caleb Okoli.
